Did we create God or did God created us? Does it matter?

I believe in the concept of God. Which means, I believe in a greater good even if there isn't a God-like entity. Even if God doesn't exist, the concept of God is worth believing in because it encourages us to look beyond our selfesh motivations for moral direction and purpose. For many, like myself, the existance of God is uncertain. But perhaps we can agree that our human essence, our spirt, does indeed exist.

This primary purpose of this community is to discuss the characteristics of our human spirit, without relying on the 'word of God'. Is the human spirit within each of us? Or is it a common thread that runs between us? Is it inately good? Does it exist at all?

References to contemporary thought leaders, who champion the human spirit are welcome too.
